We're on the west end so something over there would be great, but anywhere's fine and I would love any recommendations you have, either for individuals or businesses. [contact info if you've got it please!]

Who do you use? What are they good at?
How's the shop on Park?
Are there any others?
Anyone who's especially good with vintage? [I just got the Schwinn and it needs an overhaul ++]

One voice, one guitar and the most incredible show youve ever seen. Peter Nevland and Paul Finley explode on stage with the energy and talent of the most original, rock n roll, acoustic guitar wizardry, funky white boy dancing, youve ever seen. These two performers - theyre more than poets - have taken spoken word and the art of poetry slam to new heights, raves the Santa Fe Reporter. An explosion of words, is the quotation of choice for the Dallas Morning News, lifting his arms one minute and kicking his legs the next. Since September, 2002, Peter and Paul have completed 6 tours across the U.S. And Canada and played for just about every audience imaginable. From rock hungry students to fine art lovers, inner city kids to white-collar businessman, no one can get enough of their Acoustic Spoken Groove.

Of course the most interesting aspect to them isnt so much where theyve played, but how they ended up working together. Music and writing was the last thing on Peters mind when he came to the University of Texas in 1993 to study Mechanical Engineering. When he did start writing, his performance was so inventive, bands started asking if they could play music for him while he unleashed his Dr. Seuss took a walk through the ghetto and decided to become the white, jive king style. It wasnt long before he met one of the most amazing guitarists hed ever seen in 2000 at an Austin Arts Festival.

Wisconsin-reared Paul Finley had been hooked by the guitar the first time his fingers touched the strings. At the age of 16, he began teaching, getting a diploma in Guitar Performance from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and joining his talents with the indie band, Mas Optica. Hes played with symphonies, comedy troupes, rock stars and buskers in his journey from Wisconsin to Austin. It was the perfect preparation for the turn his life was about to take as he gave Peter his card and told him to call if he wanted to do anything with music.

They finally played together a year later, realizing something instant and magical in what they were creating. After countless cities, open doors, wowed audiences, bad jokes and 7 CDs later, theyre set to take off as the folk apostles of the most original, acoustic funk machine, spoken groove combo ever experienced.

So I'm thinking about putting on a cruiser cup and was wondering how many people would be interested in participating? What is a cruiser cup?
So far this is my intial thoughts
1st Pirate Parking Lot Cruiser Cup –

Criterium – Parking lot urban criterium, may have some small obstacles, dirt, dismounts or whatever else we decide to throw in to it.
Bunny Hop – How high can you hop on your 45lb cruiser?
Huffy Pull – Same as a log pull except with a cement block tied to a huffy
Wheelie Man – Wheelies on cruisers are not easy, who is the wheelie master?
Musical Chairs – ride in a circle dump your bike and jump on a chair
Best Cruiser Award – Who’s the biggest pimp?
Derby – Parking lot mini derby
Omnium – points accumulated for all the events, highest points takes the cake.

Rules of Engagement –

COST - $10 per entry for all events + donation. Although you don't have to participate in all the events. Pooled entry costs will be split to the winner of the Omnium and the remainig divided between the individual winners of each event. The amount won will be determined on the amount of entries. Some sort of prize will also be awarded to all winners.

BIKE RULES – You can only use one bike for all the events and you are not allowed to change parts once we have started. Cruiser must have rear coaster brake (singlespeed) and have some sort of cruiser bar. We will be lenient on the bikes but at the same time a bike with an excessive advantage will not be allowed to participate. Thus don’t bring your singlespeed 29er with a flat bar.

POINTS SYSTEM – Points will be determined by 10 pts for 1st, 9pts for 2nd and so forth. The winner of the omnium will be whoever has the most points after each event.

AFTER PARTY – When we’re all done we are planning on a mass cruise to the local pub. Derby and antics are welcome on the post ride to beer and pizza.

Once again it's almost time for the Mayor's 4th of July Parade, and
once again Bike Alameda will have an entry open to all riders and all bike types.

Whether you ride on two wheels or more, tandems, trailers, or trail-a-bikes, even tricycles - we have a place for you!

We particularly welcome families - the parade moves very slowly,
making it easy for even young kids to participate. It's a lot of fun
to decorate your bike or helmet with streamers or pinwheels, and
you'd be surprised how many people you may recognize as you ride along. Last year was our first time in the parade and we'd love to see even more people come out this year!

The parade officially starts at 10:00 am, with entrants lined up
along Lincoln Ave. between Park St. and Grand. This year, we have been given the last official entry position (#150), so our line-up position should be at about the intersection of Lincoln and Grand.

All participants are instructed to be in place by 9:00 am, but since
we will be at the end, I think it's safe to arrive later. There will
be a core contingent there early to assure us of the spot. Allow some time to decorate your bike - we will have some extra supplies on hand at the line-up.

For those who really want to see the whole parade as well as ride in it, you could even stake out a position somewhere along the top of Park St., watch the parade roll by, and join Bike Alameda when we get to you - the more the merrier! Also remember that Bike Alameda is hosting safe, secure, free valet bike parking at the Rittler Park fun fair after the parade.

Please join us, and help to demonstrate that Alameda is a great place to bike!

Hope to see you there -
Catherine Atcheson
