bike repair/supplies?

topic posted Sat, July 8, 2006 - 8:13 AM by  gwen
Hi, we're in the process of moving to Alameda and I'd like to find someone in town to help maintain/repair our bikes [a 70s Centurion, early 60s Schwinn, and an 80s no-name cruiser]. We're on the west end so something over there would be great, but anywhere's fine and I would love any recommendations you have, either for individuals or businesses. [contact info if you've got it please!]

Who do you use? What are they good at?
How's the shop on Park?
Are there any others?
Anyone who's especially good with vintage? [I just got the Schwinn and it needs an overhaul ++]

Thanks,
-Gwen

ive taken my vintage and my fancy bikes to the shop on park street, across from weinersnitzel. They have done a great job restoring a custom cruiser that was rusted to hell from the salt water and they even ordered fancy hard to find parts for it.

Funny - I had a negative experience with Alameda Bike on Park St. They told me they didn't work on older bikes. I took it over to Cycle City (High St. at Santa Clara) and they were happy to work on it, and I thought their charges were reasonable.

I highly recommend Alameda Bike (which is the shop across from der weiner). If you are unable to find someone there who will work on your bike at the shop you might try asking for George, who works there, and seeing if he'd be interested in fixing your bike up on the side. George has built bikes for sale on Craig's list (one of my friend owns one of his bikes and loves it). Feel free to ping me through tribe and give me your contact info - I can hook you up if you'd like - least I can do for a fellow gwen :)
